Glock 27 Review

The Glock 27 review in 40 S&W joins the Gen5 family as a new member. This compact, lightweight, powerful handgun has been chosen as the official backup weapon by so many U.S. law enforcement agencies. The innovative Gen5 design upgrades have been incorporated to it. This variant features a nDLC finish thanks to the use of Gen5 technology, a flared magazine well, the tried-and-true GLOCK Marksman barrel (GMB), and an ambidextrous slide stop lever. The G27 Gen5’s subcompact frame, which is adjustable like the Gen4 model’s, has the modular backstrap and beavertail system (MBS) and a reversible magazine catch to accommodate left- and right-handed users. Remarkably wider than models from the previous generation, the slide of the 40 S&W Gen5 is.

Glock 27 Background

The subcompact member of the.40 S&W family is the Glock 27. The G22 (full size), G23 (compact), G24 (rare model the size of a G17L), and G35 (5.3 inch barrel on a full size frame) make up the rest of that family. As long as the magazine is longer than the gun’s grip, all of those models can use the same magazines. This indicates that while the compact can fit a full-size magazine, the opposite is not true. The G27 features the shortest grip, allowing it to accept either the 13-, 15-, or 22-round.40 magazines in addition to the usual 9-round magazine. Although they appear a little goofy dangling out of the grip, they are fully functional.

One of the main benefits of the Glock 27 for law enforcement usage was its magazine compatibility. For many years, a Glock 22 served as the de facto standard police pistol in the United States. Officers would carry a number of extra magazines in addition to their service weapon. The ability to use those magazines was one of the best features of a G27 backup gun, which is typically worn in an ankle holster. Since the backup gun didn’t require any special extra magazines, this reduced total weight.

However, the.40 S&W’s reign of terror is now over. Due to the.40’s lower capacity and greater recoil than the 9mm, while having extremely identical terminal ballistics, fewer and fewer shooters are opting for it.

GLOCK 27 Models and Variations

The Glock 27 comes in three different generations. The most popular Gen 5 is the newest and best. Only for law enforcement contracts, Generation 4 models are still widely available in used form, and there is still plenty of new old stock on dealer shelves. Californians can purchase Gen 3 models because of the state’s handgun roster regulations. The only color that is typically offered is black, though several cosmetic variations have also been made.

Glock 27: Our Opinion

Shooting the Glock 27 makes me think of the phrase “squirrely.” Reduced recoil is one of the 9mm’s main advantages over the.40 S&W. The G27 makes the increased recoil in the.40 very, very clear. The stout recoil would occasionally cause me to flinch. But it was manageable when I did my bit and tightly held on. You can tell if your technique is shoddy with this rifle.

The ejection on this gun is the most bothersome feature. No matter what ammunition I choose, it always manages to hit me in the face with the brass. When using this gun on the shooting line, be careful to use eye protection.

Aftermarket Assistance

The Glock 27’s trigger is a typical Glock component. You probably have a good sense of how this one feels if you’ve tried the others. It does not awe, but it is sufficient for defensive use. However, if you chose to modify the trigger, there are several aftermarket options available. Just be aware that the quantity of aftermarket components added to a Glock decreases its reliability. A firearm with more aftermarket components is more likely to have reliability problems.

Ergonomics

The G27’s ergonomics are not outstanding. It feels just like a regular-thickness Glock with the grip and barrel removed. It appears to be as thick and tall in the hand. The grip is also relatively short, making it impossible for the pinky of the majority of shooters to touch the rifle. With the Glock 27, extended magazines or magazine floorplates with a pinky extension are a great idea. It is uncomfortable to hold a subcompact.40 with only two fingers.

Reliability
The quality and dependability of every Glock are unmatched. The G27 upholds the family legacy. The way it feels in your hands might not make you grin, but it will function when you need it. It uses ammunition without discrimination as well. The G27 will consume almost any ammunition supplied to it.

Accuracy
Nobody uses a Glock 27 in target pistol competitions for no reason. lousy ergonomics, a generic Glock trigger, and strong recoil combine to create a lousy target gun. This is not to suggest that it is innately imprecise, just that it is not a gun that is particularly concerned with accuracy at bullseye targets. As quickly as a shooter is able, shots will be fired at a silhouette target. When fired with more intention, it can shoot respectable groupings. But rather than a gun that makes shooting simpler than it otherwise would be, this is a gun where accuracy is still achievable despite the pistol’s other features.

Value
The G27’s value proposition has some subtleties. A subcompact.40 S&W purchase at full retail cost is debatable. The $540 price point appears excessive because Glock insists on employing cheap plastic sights. However, there are a lot of inexpensive used Glock 27s available. One reason for the low demand is that the.40 S&W is no longer as popular as it once was.

The visuals are my other complaint about the price point. The G27’s inexpensive plastic sights are identical to those on other Glocks. The best course of action is to switch out the sights for at least metal ones, usually metal night sights. The thin plastic sights frequently break when being operated with one hand. They have also been known to become worn out after numerous holster draws. Better sights should be seen as a necessary upgrade, similar to a pinky extension for the stock magazine.

Final Thoughts
Overall, the Glock 27 achieves its goals. It makes the ideal handgun for a full-size backup.Glock 40 caliber. On its own, it is a useful concealed pistol, but other choices available in the market now outperform it.

Glock 27 photo Review

One of my all-time favorite handguns is the GLOCK 27 subcompact.40.  With the exception of some jams from worn-out magazines, it handles like a champ and has never caused me any issues.  The GLOCK 27 is a fantastic little backup gun that can deliver precise fire downrange in an emergency!

Since then, Glock has added the Glock 42 and Glock 43 to its lineup (see our written review here). Both the Glock 42 and the Glock 43 are single stack pistols that fire 9mm and.380 rounds, respectively. When the 43 was produced, there was some controversy because many customers had already bought the Glock 42.380. Some believed it to be a scheme by Glock to sell additional weapons. Imagine that.
